Thiruvananthapuram : Health Minister Veena George inaugurated the Food Street Hub at Shankhumugham, Thiruvananthapuram, set up under the leadership of the Food Safety Department as part of the Modernization of Food Streets project. Public Works Minister P.A. Muhammed Riyas inaugurated the Shankhumugham Beach beautification project.
Health Minister Veena George said that the aim is to make Kerala a food destination. Safe food will be ensured in this. In the first phase, 4 places have been selected. Apart from Thiruvananthapuram, food streets have also been set up in Ernakulam Kasturba Nagar, Kozhikode Beach and Malappuram Kottakunnu. The minister also clarified that food streets will be expanded to more places.
Safe Food Street is a major project undertaken by the Food Safety Department. More and more people are coming to eat from outside. Food should be healthy. Food is also a part of culture. The Food Safety Department is doing a lot of work to ensure the safety of food. The date and time should be recorded accurately on the parcel.
Modern food streets have been made a reality as part of preparing good food in a clean and beautiful environment. The food street in Thiruvananthapuram has been made a reality at a cost of Rs. 1 crore. This project will also strengthen the tourism sector. The project is being implemented in Thiruvananthapuram under the leadership of the Food Safety Department in collaboration with DTPC, NHM and the Municipality. 18 permanent food stalls with basic facilities, a common dining area, waste disposal system, washing area and toilets have been set up. These food stalls will operate in compliance with food safety standards. This food street will help the general public and tourists visiting the conch shell to safely enjoy various delicacies. This project will give a new dimension to the street food culture and nightlife of Thiruvananthapuram.
The function was presided over by Municipal Mayor Arya Rajendran and was attended by Antony Raju MLA as the chief guest. Food Safety Commissioner Afsana Parveen, Municipal Repairs Standing Committee Chairman Medayil Vikraman, and Councilor Seraphine Freddy.
