Goa : In yet another significant milestone for Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) and the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), two state-of-the-art Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) – ICGS Ajit (Yard 1277) and ICGS Aparajit (Yard 1278) – were launched today at a grand ceremony held at Goa Shipyard Limited, Vasco da Gama, Goa.
The vessels were launched by Smt. Manju Sharma in the august presence of Dr. Mayank Sharma, IDAS, Financial Advisor (Defence Services), who graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Senior dignitaries from the Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, Ministry of Defence, and Goa Shipyard Limited also attended the ceremony.
ICGS Ajit and ICGS Aparajit are the seventh and eighth vessels – and the last two ships – in the series of eight Fast Patrol Vessels being indigenously designed and built by GSL for the Indian Coast Guard under the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. The series exemplifies India’s growing self-reliance in defence production and stands as a testament to GSL’s commitment to the vision of Make in India.
Designed and built by GSL, the FPVs are tailored to meet the operational requirements of the Coast Guard. With a length of 52 metres and a displacement of 320
tonnes, these vessels are equipped with Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPP), the first of their kind for this class in India, thereby offering enhanced manoeuvrability and propulsion efficiency. Designed to undertake a wide range of missions, these agile platforms will be deployed for fisheries protection, coastal surveillance, anti-smuggling, anti-piracy, and
search & rescue operations, particularly around India’s island territories and Exclusive Economic Zone.
The successful launch of ICGS Ajit and ICGS Aparajit – the final vessels in this prestigious FPV series – marks yet another proud moment in GSL’s illustrious journey of shipbuilding excellence. With these launches, Goa Shipyard Limited reaffirms its pivotal role in supporting India’s maritime security architecture and contributing to the nation’s blue economy growth under the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.
