Thiruvananthapuram : Health Minister Veena George has announced that two cath labs have been sanctioned in Idukki district. The cath labs were sanctioned at Idukki Medical College and Adimali Taluk Headquarters Hospital. The amount was sanctioned as part of the Idukki development package. Administrative approval was given for setting up a cath lab at Idukki Medical College and Rs . 8.94 crore for setting up a cath lab at Adimali Taluk Headquarters Hospital . With the cath lab being set up in Idukki, Kerala will become the only state in the country to have cath labs in all districts.
New cath labs were sanctioned in Kozhikode , Ernakulam and Alappuzha medical colleges the other day. Administrative sanction of Rs 44.30 crore was given to three medical colleges for cath labs and CCUs. With this, permission has been given to 5 new cath labs.
In addition to the major medical colleges in the state, Cath labs have been set up in 12 hospitals under the Health Department . Kasaragod ( 2023) and Wayanad ( 2024) , which did not have any, were the last to set up Cath labs.
The Interventional Cardiology Council has found that the highest number of cath lab procedures in the state are performed in government hospitals. Kottayam Medical College, Kozhikode Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and Alappuzha Medical College are the ones with the highest number of cath lab procedures.
