Priority ration cards cross 6.5 lakh mark in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram : Since this government came to power, more than 6.5 lakh priority ration cards, including both new and converted cards, have been made available to the eligible beneficiaries. The distribution of 28,300 priority ration cards was inaugurated by Food Minister G. R. Anil this month. An opportunity has been provided to re-apply online for changing the card type from November 17 .
The intensified distribution of ration cards by giving priority to those who are eligible has brought great relief to lakhs of families. The distribution of priority ration cards has also played a crucial role in making the Kerala project free of the extremely poor a reality.
Those with kidney , liver , heart disease , and cancer are given cards within 24 hours of receiving their application. The government has mobile ration shops in 142 tribal areas of Kerala. In addition, food grains are delivered free of cost to poor houses and orphanages.
The government has also made it possible for all cardholders to access subsidized products at reasonable prices through 1,631 Supplyco outlets. It is estimated that these activities have provided relief to the people from price hikes.
